Rules
1. General
A Cruising Category Yacht shall be defined as being a yacht that has an LOA not exceeding 31 metres (excluding bowsprits) and have the ability to cover a minimum cumulative daily distance of 120nm by sail or by sail and motor to remain in the event.
The rules applicable to the Cruising Category are outlined in the Notice of Race.
2. Scoring System
Each yacht shall be allocated 100 points. Should the Organising Authority consider a vessel to be other than a cruising yacht, discretion may be used.
Yachts not submitting the completed Predicted Log to the Organising Authority by 1200hrs Thursday 5th April 2012 shall incur a penalty of 10 points.
Cruising Category yachts shall be under sail at the time of the Warning Signal (1055hrs) and are to remain under sail until they round the Redcliffe Point Buoy. Penalty incurred 5 points.
Each yacht shall complete a Cruising Predicted Log and a Cruising Category Declaration Form that are both part of the scoring system and must be completed. They will be used to allocate 1 to 7 points for legibility and accuracy, as well as noting engine logged miles and time. Both forms will become the property of the Organising Authority and will be used to calculate the yachts placing.
3. The Finish
Yachts must proceed under sail alone for a minimum of one (1) hour prior to finishing. A penalty of 5 points for infringements applies.
4. Use of Engine
The use of the engine in the Cruising Category is unrestricted but penalty points will be incurred for the use of the engine.
The use of the engine for purposes other than propulsion is allowed but must be noted in the Log.
The first start of the engine used for propulsion purposes shall carry a penalty of 5 points; all subsequent starts will carry a penalty of 2 points each.
A penalty of 1 point for every five (5) nautical miles or part thereof, logged under engine propulsion will apply.
5. Predicted Log
Yachts are required to submit a Cruising Predicted Log on the form available from the Race Website with the Organising Authority by 1200 hrs on Thursday 5th April 2012. Fax 07 32690818 or
email
Yachts shall take their times when abeam of each designated mark. Yachts will be penalised at the rate of 1 point per hour to the next higher point for early or late arrival at each designated mark. A leeway of ten minutes either side of the predicted time will be allowed without the loss of points at each mark except at the Caloundra NW Fairway buoy where a yacht may be up to twenty minutes late without loss of points.
6. Radio Schedules
Each yacht will meet the Radio Schedules as described in the Sailing Instructions. Yachts failing to comply with this requirement will be penalised 2 points for each missed schedule. Should yachts suffer radio damage or failure to communicate their position, this must be recorded in the Cruising Category Declaration for the Organising Authority to scrutinise if need be.
Should a yacht revert to the Cruising Category, this must be reported at the first available radio schedule. Failure to do so will result in the loss of 3 points.
7. Course Completed Under Sail Only
If the course is completed under sail only, there is no penalty for crossing the finish line earlier or later than the predicted Log. Yachts that complete the race under sail alone will receive a bonus of 10 points.
8. Declarations
Each yacht shall complete both the Cruising Predicted Log and the Cruising Category Declaration Form included with the Sailing Instructions and submit them to the Race Control Centre at Gladstone no later than two (2) hours after they cross the finish line along with the Tracking Device and bracket (if issued).
Any yacht that fails to submit a declaration by this time shall be declared as DNF (Did Not Finish).
9. Line Honours
Cruising Category entrants who use their motor for propulsion are not eligible for the Line Honours award.
